In ancient times the people (some would refer to as a primitive people) appeared to have had great physical, psychic and spiritual connections, they also seemed to have been able to maintain environmentally dependable lifestyle.
These people had what many of us seek and search for today, a deeper more meaningful connection with the natural world around us. A greater connection with the universe and a fuller more meaningful life complete with great spiritual values.
In todays world we might think these so called primitive people were superstitious and simple minded.
Yes, they could be very superstitious as we view things today, yet in reality they were affirming their spiritual connection with the trees, mountains, clouds and animals, all these things had and still have extremely strong energies.
Surely an awareness of these energies is still sought after in todays world yet, possibly not as well understood. (I know of people who see the word energy written in the spiritual context and will completely stop reading, so to those I say adieu)
An awareness of these laws and consciousness has come to the fore, as people are no longer afraid to speak about their need and benefit for hugging trees, sending thoughts to high mountains for strength etc.
The concept of relativity, the chaos theory and the existence of parallel universes which science acknowledges today was in fact told by many a Shaman and Buddhists thousands of years ago, which should encourage us not to forget while seeking and moving forward in our thoughts.
Also take some time to look back to what was said all those years ago.
When we speak of Tarot, Palm reading, Numerology all accepted methods of divination in todays society just stop and ask yourself "what is it they all have in common?
Patterns, and the ancient people were great ones for tuning their days and lives to meld into and working with patterns.
In schools today, students are taught that we the modern society are civilized and that when they look back to other times they are in fact researching primitive people, yet we know that many primitive civilizations were in fact highly developed spiritually with highly developed philosophical systems.
We can read quotes today that mean as much as when they were first uttered. It was Michelangelo who said amongst other quotations "My soul can find no staircase to heaven unless it be through Earths loveliness"
Perhaps these people had in fact a far better understanding of reality than we do now, and of how in the scheme of things they fitted in.
We could, and I believe, be much better off if we had a deeper connection with the life giving cycles of the natural world. Using these natural examples we might be able to solve some of lifes problems.
One thought comes immediately to mind, if we only ate food they grew deep in the soil in winter our bodies would get the minerals it needed.
If we ate top growing veggies and fruit in the summer, we would have the vitamins we need for that time of year, however, in todays world we can buy almost anything at anytime, is it progress?
And we wonder why our bodies switch into panic mode and we get unwell and our weight can fluctuate, (I am not saying this is what is causing obesity, I am saying society and the way we have accepted to live can and does do nothing to help this present situation which appears to be giving so much concern at this time..)
Our spiritual well being is as important to us in todays world as it was in ancient times; somehow we are the ones who have made the segregation.
There are many folk who still plant in connection to the moon and stars and, there have been discoveries made by scientists that sky gazing and planting has great benefits to us and the food crops.
Most Western countries have Planetariums where people go and learn about the formation of the stars, is this so very different from the ancients who would star gaze from the top of a hill and look for signs?
I think not.
Thousands of people worldwide, myself included, have a personal astrologer and have found great interest in what is told, at times predicted.
Listened to the astrologers explanation of what and where the planets are and their present positions how they can and have an influence on us at this time, should we decide to follow information given to us.
Many of my friends have had their charts completed now, and it is amazing how time spent with a good astrologer has explained many events in their lives.
Past, past lives and in the present having these things explained succinctly has helped them to understand why events happened as they did and are.
So our primitive ancients perhaps were not quite so primitive after all. The main difference being when we visit an astrologer in todays world we do not sit around on the earth at night to have a sitting.
The West Africans find that to read and follow the direction of the wild foxes footprints (which I am told leaves a grid pattern in the sand) is read the next day by the tribes leader.
Whatever is revealed is followed, not to do so they believe throws theirs lives into chaos. Is this superstition?
One would have to research events, times and outcomes to know.
Or will future generations be making an observation that shows that, those Africans really knew a thing or two, because they lived with the natural law of the fox?
An intimate relationship with nature and everything within the surrounding landscape was characteristic to the ancients, some literally worshipped the ground they walked on.
In todays world we are being encouraged all the time by the department of conversation to have a better regard for the soil, the grasses, the sand, water and mountains, to preserve our natural heritage.
Great, but are we missing the point here, we need to preserve them and the greater need I believe is to become more connected with them spiritually and naturally, to understand what nature is all about, what nature and the elements, and the animals can teach us.
How many of you have a pet whose habits totally change when the weather is about to change, we have no idea, we look out the window everything looks and feels alright, we look at the cat and say whats the matter with the cat?
What is happening to the bird that she has stopped singing?
Jodie my German Shepherd just instinctively knows when a storm is on the way, our animals know a thing or two, and it is not always about the weather, they know when a spirit friend is visiting while we may blissfully go about getting the evening meal!
When we can become closer connected I believe we have a greater chance of understanding many happenings not only in our own lives, but what is truly happening around us.
We can bring back into our lives the priceless heritage of knowing, we just need to calm out thoughts, and re-learn to watch, look and listen to what is around us.
Love Helen
